And regarding frequency of newsletter publication: Many of the newsletters to which I subscribe are written by the kind of people whose engagement with the world is extraordinary and admirable. It might be engagement on a grand scale, the wide world that is out there -- on a small scale, a town, a home, a single book or film -- on an interior scale, the intricacies of the self. Whenever these authors don't publish a newsletter for however long, I assume it's because they're practicing that engagement, and am pleased because that engagement also sustains me. Your newsletter is like that.
me forgetting to answer your question... pants are vintage from patty shelabarger and shoes are just Teva magdalyn's ! i've bought them two years in a row, they're good for islands...a little hack is i colour in the teva logo with a black sharpie
The point about wanting to keep the mystery alive for certain writers is the one that stays with me. There's an assumption now that visibility is owed. That if you make things, you also owe a constant narration of yourself making them. But some of the best work has always come from people who were a little unaccountable. A little elsewhere. The deal used to be: you give us the work, we don't get to also have you. Somewhere that got renegotiated without anyone's consent, and now mystery reads as a luxury instead of a basic condition for the work existing at all.
