The other night a man who I can only describe as a pillar of my neighbourhood asked me what I did. Now, this man used to be an opera singer, then he worked building subway tunnels, now he’s retired and buys weed from the government to sell. He’s also very Italian. I am obsessed, fascinated and need to know more. Anyway, I told him I was a novelist and this man responded with, “Still?”
STILL! Yes, unfortunately (maybe fortunately?) still. See, this is what I mean about getting out of your bubble and into the real world.
