After a few years of freelancing and the publication of my debut novel Happy Hour, I’ve decided to dip my toe into a new era. As a fiction writer, I have an idiosyncratic process and style. I’d like to preserve what I think is distinct and special about that without sacrifice. There’s been such a wonderful readership around my work and the girls who get it, get it. This new platform will allow me to write whatever I fancy, and send to people who understand what I do.
For now, I’ve decided on sectioning the newsletter into three parts. This will be the new destination for my advice column “Designs for Living” which originated at The Baffler (ask your questions here). “Small Joints” will be any whim, passing thought, or preoccupation, recommendation etc. “An Ode To…” will be essays on things I think are worth rhapsodizing.
Free Subscribers
All subscribers get access to my monthly recommendations letter (Small Joints) and the occasional public post. If you like the newsletter, please share it! Sharing (and linking) helps new readers find me. I also have referrals turned on. The more people you refer, the more months you get free access to the paid content!
Paid Subscribers
If you'd like to upgrade, you'll receive the advice column, essays, reviews, recordings, or whatever(!) straight to your inbox…plus you get access to the full website. Paid subscribers help me write what I want to write and what you want to read (time is money, after all). They also fund my two editors, Emma and Hannah, who take a pen to the column and more formal essays. You’ll be giving me support to maybe even write my second novel.
The Schedule
Since I’m new to this whole thing, I’ll be trying out a schedule and seeing how it feels. For now my plan is:
1 x monthly recommendation letter/passing whims etc (Free)
1 x essay every first week of the month (Paid)
1 x advice column every third week of the month (Paid)
Who am I?
New York Magazine wrote a profile on me called “THE PARTY GIRL’S REVENGE”. I’ve written for the big magazines and the big newspapers, so if you’re interested in that kind of thing you can see my publications here. In 2021 my debut novel Happy Hour was shortlisted for the Amazon First Novel Award. Happy Hour received starred reviews in both Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus Review. It is considered a RAVE on Literary Hub’s Book Marks, a website that consolidates reviews from major publications. I was the resident advice columnist at The Baffler from 2019-2023 where I wrote ‘Designs for Living’. If you’re new to knowing me, I hope you can come along.

“A glamorous, intelligent debut novel ...Like the many cocktails sipped by our discerning narrator: effervescent, tart, and intoxicating.” - The Kirkus Review
